Year 6 Visit to Wonderful Woking
Y6 Visit Wonderful Woking
Year 6 headed off bright and early on the train to Woking on Tuesday where they learned about the coming of the railway and how the town expanded in Victorian England. First stop was Europe’s first purpose built mosque, the world famous Shah Jahan Mosque in Maybury. The resident Imam gave us a wonderful tour jam-packed with information and the chance to ask questions. It was inspiring to hear about all of the various religions which came together to influence the creation of such a beautiful building. From there, we walked back into Woking and headed to The Lightbox where we explored some maps and photographs to put together the story of Woking’s birth. Linked to Victorian traditions, the children had the opportunity to make a locket using shrink plastic and a memento of their day. A trip on the train home and a walk back through Brookwood’s cemetery returned us to school.
