Learning Champions
Each class teacher chooses their Learning Champions each year from Years 1 to 6. These are the children that embody the skills of the particular subject - reading, writing or maths - and show a real love and aptitude. They are the children who get to promote the subject within their class, support their peers and champion a love for the area of learning.
In Years 4-6, the Learning Champion role develops further when children take on even more responsibility by helping out in other classes lower down the school. Year 4 children help with Year 1, Year 5 with Year 2 & Year 6 with Year 3. Teachers can "book" their champions to come down and support the lower years with their learning, help set up activities, hear readers, give advice in maths or even run The Writing Shed! They become more confident and fluent the older they get and make a real contribution to school life here at Pirbright.
Year 5 have the added fun of ICT Champions who offer technology support across the school as required by either teachers or children. Year 6 run a team of Science Champions who do the same job with a focus on science. They might source equipment for teachers, set up investigations or support children with their learning as required.
