The Daily Mile
The Daily Mile – Can you run a marathon?
The Daily Mile is open for all children from Year 3 to Year 6 to run independently (or with a parent if they prefer) from 8:15am. Reception, Year 1 & Year 2 children are welcome to join in but must bring an adult with them to supervise them around the course either by running alongside or cheering from a short distance. Children taking part MUST have started their run by 8:30am and they will be given bibs by the Daily Mile Crew to show they are involved. They only need trainers and are welcome to run in their school uniform.
The course begins by The Writing Shed on the KS1 Playground and goes to Big Bob,around the KS2 playground, around the KS1 playground, then to the Reception entrance gate, and back to The Writing Shed where the children will receive a token to show they have done one lap. They need to do this all over again (and then again!) to get their mile tick. Children then have to find their record card where they collect daily stamps; children who manage to run 13 and then 26 miles will be rewarded with certificates – easy! Children enter school in the mornings at the KS1 gate so will need to head straight to the Daily Mile Crew to be able to take part.
Children are encouraged to run/jog the whole course rather than walking any of it and it should take between 10 – 20 minutes depending on how speedy they (or you) are! There are always keen Year 6 children on hand who are happy to run the course with any newbies so don't be shy to ask - that's what they are there for. Good luck!
