Sports Premium

The Government has provided much needed additional funding to help improve the provision of P.E. (Physical Education) and sport in primary schools and to ensure that these improvements are sustainable. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of P.E. and Sport in schools. Our Sports Premium Plan is incorporated into our School Improvement Plan and is worked on by our Sports Leader Ms Jackson.

We are proud of our PE and sports at Pirbright and are holders of the School Games GOLD Award for our sports and PE offer in KS2 and the Two-Star award from Surrey Active Schools for KS1. Opportunities for sport at Pirbright are far and wide and include a range of clubs for children throughout the school, including The Daily Mile which runs every morning, alongside a huge number of extra-curricular events including trips to see professional sports in action. Ms Jackson, our dedicated sports coach, supports the teaching of PE across the school on a weekly basis.

Sports Premium 2024-2025 Review

The 2024–2025 Sports Premium Grant has enabled us to enhance and expand opportunities in PE, sport, and physical activity for all pupils at Pirbright School.

A key focus has been effective swimming provision, which supports pupils in developing both swimming proficiency and essential self-rescue skills. Additionally, leadership opportunities have empowered our student ambassadors, equipping them with the experience and confidence to take on leadership roles both within Pirbright School and in their future educational journeys.

Our student leaders have successfully organised intra-school competitions and led engaging lunchtime activities, with a particular focus on involving less active pupils. Participation in extra-curricular sports and active clubs has been maximized for children eligible for Pupil Premium and Service Premium, as well as those on the SEND register, by subsidising club fees to remove financial barriers.

Extra-curricular learning is also enriched through Forest School sessions available to all year groups, and by activities at our Nurture Farm, specifically designed for children in Years 1 and 2.

To ensure high-quality PE instruction, staff have accessed targeted training and CPD opportunities, further developing their skills and confidence in teaching PE. The grant also enables us to sustain specialist tennis coaching from Tiger Tennis, with sessions delivered at Pirbright Tennis Club—an experience thoroughly enjoyed by our pupils. We have also focused on increasing girls' participation in PE and sport through girls-only football lessons and an after-school club led by specialist coaches.

The funding secures our continued membership with WASPs, allowing pupils to represent Pirbright School in a wide variety of inter-school sports and competitions throughout the year. We are also able to purchase sport-specific team kits and equipment, fostering pride and unity when representing the school. Finally, the grant supports well-resourced, inclusive intra-school events that promote safe, engaging, and high-participation sporting experiences for all pupils.
