For each year group, we provide detailed documents outlining the reading, writing and maths expectations that pupils are assessed against throughout the year. These come from the government and make up part of the National Curriculum. They are the benchmark which all children across the country are measured against. These guides give staff a clear reference point for understanding what children should know, understand and be able to do at each stage of their learning. Teachers use these expectations to inform planning, track progress and identify next steps, ensuring that every child is supported and challenged appropriately.
