Here at Pirbright, we are proud of our balanced and stimulating history curriculum which inspires pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past and appreciate its relevance today and for the future. As well as acquiring a detailed knowledge of past events, children are equipped to think like a historian; they learn a wide range of historical skills such as how to ask perceptive questions, think critically by weighing evidence, sift arguments and develop considered opinions.

As they progress through the school, children develop a deeper understanding of a variety of historical concepts (such as cause and consequence, similarity, difference and significance) which are necessary in order to fully understand the past.

The school is equipped with a wide range of historical resources which help to enhance our history lessons. Every year group has historical days or history-based trips which give the children chance to become immersed in history for a day.

At History Time-travellers club, children are given the opportunity to study eras of history which are not covered by our extensive curriculum.
